Madrone Needs Your Support Contract on Mayacamas Restoration Planning Agreement on Hillside Ordinance |
Contract for Mayacamas Restoration PlanningMapping and planning for ecological restoration are now under way at the Mayacamas Mountain Sanctuary, under a $5,000 contract with Circuit Rider Productions of Windsor. According to Bill Payne, Mayacamas Committee Chair, this is the first phase of a continuing enhancement and restoration program, and should be completed by next summer. Madrone Audubon is funding the study and cooperating closely with Circuit Riders. One product of the study will be a list of up to 20 priority projects for ecological improvement, including sites for riparian habitat restoration, wetland enhancement, invasive species control and the restoration of disturbed areas such as roads and erosion gullies. The initial study will also produce detailed plans for restoration at several sites, including Little Sulfur Creek and the spring near the entrance on Pine Flat Road. "Circuit Rider Productions is a local, non-profit organization with a long track record and excellent reputation in ecological restoration work," Payne says. " They have exactly the knowledge, technical skills, and other resources that are needed, including a sophisticated nursery of native plants, computer mapping techniques, and manpower. They are enthusiastic about helping us, and we hope to have a long-term relationship, with lots of input from them." |
