Pee Wee Audubon: Revels with Reptiles

On Sunday, September 13, Pee Wee Audubon will begin its fall season at Spring Lake Park, with a program on reptiles and amphibians. Judy Fireman will introduce us personally to some local and exotic newts, lizards, and snakes. This program was rescheduled from last spring. We'll begin at 10 AM and finish around 2 PM, after a picnic lunch. Reservations: Elham, 573-7183.

Directions: Enter Spring Lake Park from Newanga, off of Summerfield Road. At the park kiosk ($4 parking fee), go left and follow the signs to Upper Jack Rabbit Group Picnic Area.

Family Hawk Watch
Monte Kirven, a raptor biologist who teaches at Santa Rosa Junior College, will lead our annual expedition to witness the hawk migration at the Golden Gate on Sunday, September 27. This is an especially good outing for older children. We expect to see lots of hawks, falcons, osprey, and eagles. Bring lunch and liquids, binoculars and field guides if you have them, and dress in layers.

Directions: Take Highway 101 south to the last Sausalito exit (Marin Headlands). Make an immediate left, then an immediate right onto Conzelman Road. Go 1.8 miles up the hill to the summit, park before the road becomes one-way, and walk up behind the white gate on the ocean side of Hawk Hill. We'll gather at the summit, on the middle platform at 11 AM and stay 'til about 2 PM. Call Elham at 573-7183 for reservations; attendance is limited.
