Pee Wee Reports
Nest Box Day at Spring Lake, March 29 We put up
six bluebird boxes. We filled my box up with wood chips for a woodpecker
to find. We looked at more old bluebird boxes and John climbed a ladder
to loosen the wires around one of the trees. Jim showed us an "exploding"
bird box. He wanted us to see how not to make a box! We learned to put the
boxes 10-12 feet up high on the east side of a tree. This year's boxes are
special because they have a predator guard to keep out snakes and a "ladder"
inside for baby birds to climb.
Anna, Sarah, and I liked making the boxes and watching John and Jim put
up the bird boxes! We can't wait to go back to see if the birds are using
them. We want to put up a bird box in our yard, too.
