Midweek Walkabout Results
Wednesday, September 17, 1997 On a very warm day
for Point Reyes 22 birders had a very good birding trip. At the Olema Marsh
a Blue-winged Teal, Common Snipe, Virginia Rail, Sora plus 15 other
bird species were found. The birds of the trip were a Tropical Kingbird
and a Golden Eagle. A total of 64 species were listed.
Thursday, September 25, 1997 On a bright, clear
and sunny morning, seven birders gathered at the Marin Headlands Rodeo Lagoon
with leader Lew Edmondson to do some preliminary birding before ascending
Hawk Hill. At about 10:30, we proceeded to the hill just in time to see
heavy fog roll in pushed by chilly 30 m.p.h. wind. We retreated to the parking
lot where a Red-tailed Hawk, two Cooper's Hawks and an American
Kestrel circled, hoping in vain for better conditions. Thirty-one species
were observed including three immatrue Wrentits that walked out of
the willows to watch us eat lunch.
Thursday, October 9, 1997 In spite of heavy rainfall
the previous day, seven birders went to Point Reyes for our Thursday outing.
We were treated to a gorgeous sunny day and 79 species of birds, very few
of which were ducks. Many Townsend's Warblers were at the headquarters
as well as 200-300 Pine Siskins. The walk ended with about 30 Red-necked
Phalaropes at the Pond at Johnson's Oyster Farm. |
