Pee Wee Welcomes Fall: Fruits, Nuts, and Seedsby Marilyn Scott On Saturday, October 18, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Pee Wee Audubon will explore the lush forest and meadows along Lagunitas Creek in Marin's Samuel P. Taylor State Park. With naturalist and teacher Cathleen Cannon, we will discover nature displaying her colorful harvest of fruits, nuts, and seeds. Cathleen will show us how the creekside corridor provided earlier peoples with everyday needs such as toothbrushes, lip gloss, bracelets, and necklaces. To register for this outing, please call Elham at 573-7183. Directions: Allow about an hour and a quarter for the drive. Take Highway 101 to the Washington Street exit in Petaluma. Turn right (west) on Washington, then left on Lakeville and right on D Street. This becomes Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. Continue on, into the country, over a big hill, and all the way past Nicasio Reservoir. At the bottom of the hill, below the dam, there is a stop sign. Continue straight, onto Platform Bridge Road; do not turn right toward Point Reyes Station. Park at the intersection of Platform Bridge Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard; do not cross Sir Francis Drake. Walk down the gravel road to your right. We'll meet there, on the old cement bridge. Bring lunch and water. The nearest bathroom facilities are at the main Park entrance, three miles east on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. |
