Old Audubon Magazines Piling Up? | Mayacamas Sanctuary CampoutBy the time you receive this newsletter, those who wish to attend the Saturday,October 5, Madrone Chapter campout at the Mayacamas Sanctuary should alreadyhave made their reservations. Those who procrastinated, however, may call PeterLeveque in advance (542-8946) and bring their $5 per person potty fee to thecampout. For the protection of the Sanctuary, no one will be admitted withoutadvance reservations.This rare and special event will include a potluck dinner, owling at night, andbirding on Sunday morning. Suggested arrival time at the Sanctuary is between 4and 6 PM, with dinner to be served at 6:30. MAS will provide porta-potties andsome cook stoves. Please bring a supper dish to share, your own dishes andbeverages, your breakfast, plenty of water, and camping gear. To reach the Sanctuary, exit Highway 101 at Dry Creek going east. At secondlight, turn left onto Healdsburg Avenue. At the Y, bear right onto AlexanderValley Road. You will cross the Russian River. The road briefly becomes Highway128 and passes through Jimtown. Where 128 bears right, you continue straightonto Pine Flat Road. From this point, it is exactly nine miles to the campsite.Proceed onward and upward, and watch for MAS signs. The road is one-lane andwinding, with steep drop-offs in some places. Drive carefully, andplease carpool if possible.
