Beginners Bird Walk Report

September 7, 1996
Santa Rosa Creek at Willowside Road
Enjoying clear skies and sunshine, 22 birders peered into the riparian foliage bordering the trail. The birding was good, though berry picking enjoyed equal favor at times.

Yellow Warblers were present in large numbers with scatterings of Wilson's and Orange-crowned Warblers also present. Several Western Tanagers showed, one with a grasshopper. While Belted Kingfishers circled overhead, two White-tailed Kites engaged in what appeared to be a food exchange, though no food was obvious to those watching. One of the Kites was later observed on a nest in a nearby oak. Two male American Kestrels gave us a display of close-formation flying while American Pelicans circled over the laguna. Our list total for the morning was 42 birds.
